- How can I volunteer for UK Latin Community?
We’ve got lots of volunteering opportunities for you to choose from, drops as an email and a member of the UKLC will get in touch with you. - I’ve applied for a volunteer role but not heard anything. What should I do?
Please be patient. Our Volunteers Coordinator works part time, and it may take a little longer than you expect to hear back following your application. - Can I volunteer while claiming benefits?
Yes, you can volunteer whilst receiving benefits as long as you continue to meet all the conditions of your benefit. We advise that you discuss this with the office that pays your benefits before applying. More information can be found on this Government webpage. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/volunteering-and-claiming-benefits - How much time do I have to give as a volunteer?
Your commitment has a great impact in the work we do. A range of flexible volunteering opportunities are available, so you’ll be able to find something that fits your schedule.
We ask our volunteers to commit for one day a week – usually for a minimum period of 6 months, depending on the role. - Will my expenses be paid?
UK Latin Community values the contribution that our volunteers make to the organisation. For that reason, our volunteers are entitled to travel expenses to and from the place of work and lunch for each full day

No, unfortunately UK Latin Community is not able to sponsor Charity Worker visas for the volunteer activities we offer. This is because the activities offered do not meet the criteria for visa sponsorship. - I already have a visa; can I volunteer with UK Latin Community?
Yes, you can volunteer with us if your visa permits you to work or volunteer in the UK. Please check your visa permissions and whether there are any restrictions on the number of hours you can volunteer. If you have any doubts or questions, you can find out more on the government website. https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/uk-visas-and-immigration - I’m a refugee, can I volunteer?
Yes, if you have refugee status or have exceptional leave to remain you can volunteer with us. - I’m an asylum seeker, can I volunteer?
Yes, if you are an asylum seeker you can volunteer with us. If your final appeal is refused and you are denied leave to remain then you will have to stop volunteering with us. - What is the youngest age you can volunteer at?
You may be able to volunteer at the age of 16 or 17, as part of a recognised scheme, for example, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. To find out more info speak to a member of the UKLC. If you are under 18 and not part of a scheme, you can still support us by volunteering at an event or setting up your own fundraising project. All our opportunities will give you the chance to learn plenty of new skills. - Do I need any special skills or qualification to volunteer?
Not usually. Some volunteering opportunities require qualifications and some need particular skills and experience. But most of our volunteer roles mainly require personal skills such as being reliable, being enthusiastic about a particular interest and committed to our cause. - Do I need a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check?
This will depend on the volunteer role that you are doing. - Do I need to paid for DBS certificate?
Is free of charge.

To volunteer, we will ask you to complete an application form, including giving the details of two references. The people providing the reference need to have known you for two years and must not be a blood relative or a partner/spouse.
We will also ask to see photo ID and proof of your address before you start with us.
If you are not a UK citizen or do not have settled status in the UK, we will ask you to show us documentation to confirm you are eligible to volunteer in the UK, for example details of your visa. If you can’t provide this information, please email volunteer@uklatincommunity.org or speak to the Volunteer Coordinator. - I am going to volunteer, what should I wear?
When you’re a volunteer, you’ll be representing UK Latin Community. With that in mind, all members of staff and volunteers need to come across as friendly, positive and professional.
We recommend wearing something appropriate and comfortable, something such as jeans and a t-shirt would be fine.
If you’re still in doubt about what to wear, please call UKLC and speak to the Volunteer Coordinator before you start. - What support will I get as a volunteer?
All our volunteers are supported and supervised throughout their involvement with UKLC
As a volunteer you will have the support of both the Volunteers Coordinator and a member of staff who will be on hand to support you, and who you can talk to regarding any issues or concerns. - I am no longer able to volunteer for UK Latin Community, what should I do?
